  • About Reencle Carbon Filter & 3-Step Odor Filtering System
Reencle Activated Carbon Filter And 3-Step Odor Filtering System When you purchase reencle, it comes with two Reencle Carbon Filters. We recommend changing it every 9-12 months. Which means, you don't have to worry about the first 1 - 2 years about buying a new filter. Our filter has remarkably longer usage life that other electric composters out in the market thanks to Reencle's 3-step filtering system. Firstly, the internal temperature of the chamber is consistantly controlled between 113° F and 131° F(or 45°C and 55°C). Meaning that the bacteria which cause stink cannot survive in this environment. Moreover, ReencleMicrobes inside also curb the growth of bad bacteria. And finally, internal air is filtered and puried through our carbon filter. Looking to refill your filter or order a new one? Please visit our Reencle Shop.

  • Is Reencle dehydrator/grinder?
Reencle is NOT a Dehydrator NOR a Grinder Reencle operates on totally different and unique mechanism using microbial technology (ReencleMicrobe™) which makes it neither a dehydrator nor a grinder, such as as Nagual, Lomi and Vitamix. The rest of the composters released in the market like Lomi, Nagual, Vitamix are similar to a dehydrator and use high temperature to reduce the volume of food waste. The biggest disadvantage of dehydrator types is that the salinity (sodium residue) of their by-product is still very high since they are just dehydrating the food waste. Ultimately meaning that their byproducts cannot be used as a proper compost. In addition, when these dehydrator types are in operation users cannot continuously add in food waste. On top of that, you'd always have to take out and clean the inner tank after every operating cycle. On the other hand, Reencle uses microorganism called Bacillus Smithii which is extracted from cheese and soybean. The main characteristics of Bacillius Smithii are halophytic, acidophil, and thermophilic. Most of the food what people consume have the exact environment that Bacillus Smithii loves, salty and acidic. However, most of the other microbes cannot survive such kind of environment. Our decomposing mechanism is very similar to what is called a Bokashi process. Yet, the technology we use is much faster in making compost (conventional/natural decomposition process takes a lot of time). Reencle provides optimal environment for microbes to decompose food waste. Most of food waste can be decomposed within a day. Reencle users can continuously put food waste into Reencle (but you need to be careful of the daily processing amount(the recommended optimal amount is 0.7kg and maximum is 1.0kg). The most convenient part of Reencle, as well as compared to dehydrator types, is that you don’t have to clean or wash it out. You only need to use a mop or wipes to clean the surface of the bucket if it looks too dirty. Please refer to our video for easier understanding.
  • Why can't I decompose the stems/ corn husks/ onion skins? Aren't they common?
Stems(✂) / Corn Husks(⏳) / Onion Skins(⏳) Long plants or vegetables, such as stems or scallions, might get entwined with the mixing rod and cause potential malfunction. We recommend consumers to cut the stems before putting in Reencle. Stems, corn husks, onion skins are actually classified as general waste, not food waste. Meaning, skins are difficult to decompose because they contain a lot of cellulose and membrane. Moreover, the cellulose itself takes a long time to decompose. If you put them in Reencle, they will dry and break into small pieces and get mixed with the compost. However, these will take considerably longer time to decompose. Simply put, most of the food that humans can eat can be decomposed by microorganisms.

  • What happens with compostable plastics/bioplastics (Like WorldCentric clear cups or utensils)?
Compostable Plastics / Bioplastics Pure bioplastic products can be decomposed by Reencle, like rice straws. However, many bioplastic products still use chemical ingredients(only small portion is bio-material like corn, rice) which cannot be decomposed by Reencle. Here's a link showing the decomposition of rice straws by Reencle.

  • How to Lock the Sensor
How to Use the Open/Lock Button Reencle's convenient motion/foot sensor helps you throw in food scraps without even touching the lid. However, there are times you want to lock the automatic lid opening function to prevent your child or dogs from getting hands and paws into the compost. There are 2 sensor lock modes. You can either 1) lock only the automatic sensor or 2) lock both of automatic sensor and the open button. Please check to our YouTube video which will guide you how to do it. Thanks :)
  • Can Reencle Decompose Meat or Bones (Beef/Pork/Chicken/Fish)?
Meat (🆗) / Frozen Meat (🆗) / Fish (🆗) / Bones (❌) Whether they are raw, cooked or fried edible meat/fish (seafood) products such as Beef, Pork, Chicken or Lamb can be decomposed by Reencle. Cooked chicken (without bones!) can be decomposed within 24 hours. Fish scales, bones (hard bones) and guts are treated as general waste and hard to decompose. Please separate these uncompostable items when adding fish to Reencle. However, It's okay to put a trace amount of small & tiny or soft fish bones. We have classified what kinds of food waste can decomposed here. Please take a look at it.
  • Can I put coffee grinds or pods in Reencle?
Coffee Grounds (Used, Leftover, Old) (🆗) It is possible to add a scoop of coffee grounds to eliminate the odor. However, please stop adding coffee grounds if the condition of the compost gets too soggy or the decomposition of food waste becomes slower. This might be due to adding too much coffee grounds. Our recommendation is to add 40~50g per day. Coffee Beans (👀) Same as coffee grounds, it is possible to add roasted or whole coffee beans. However, due to its hard and low moisture it takes considerably long time(months) to break down. Please adjust your input looking at the condition of your compost. Coffee Pods (❌) Please do not add coffee pods in Reencle. Most of the coffee pods are made from a combination of plastics, aluminum and organic matters which can not be decomposed by our microbes. Even if your coffee pod states that it is biodegrable they will consist of some sort of chemical coatings which will block the activity of our microbes.
  • Can I put Avocados in Reencle?
Avocado Flesh(🆗) / Skin(⌛) / Pit(❌) For avocados, other than the hard pit inside, its flesh and skin will be decomposed without any problems. Please check out our Avocado experiment below!
  • What You CAN and CANNOT Put in Reencle
What CAN I Put in Reencle? ✔️ Any food leftovers, food scraps or food waste that humans can digest is acceptable to put it Reencle for composting. ✔️Also, Coffee Grounds, Tissues (1 or 2 sheets per day), Fruit Peels (soft), Egg Shells, Pet Foods, Tea, and Tea Bags (non-plastic coated) can be added to Reencle for composting. These ingredients will take more time to decompose by ReencleMicrobes due to its structural composition but, won't cause any damage to the product. ❌ What Can NOT Go in Reencle Shells(from shellfish, nuts), Bones(from beef, pork, chicken, fish or any animal bones) and Seeds(or large fruit pits) that are classified as general garbage and inedible to people. These hard things are difficult for Reencle to breakdown. Animal Wastes(dog, cat or pets) that are classified as general garbage and we do not recommend adding to Reencle. However, as they are pure form of organic matter it can be decomposed by our microbes. If you plan to add animal wastes, please note that strong odors will be generated from the compost. In that case we suggest you add 1~2 scoops of coffee grounds to eliminate bad odors. Apart from that, most food waste can be decomposed. Time taken for decomposition varies depending on the type of food waste, but since the amount of food available per day is 1kg, most things will be decomposed if you keep the amount. ⚠️ What Can Cause Failure and bad smell Download our guide sheet below!
  • I travel a lot. Will the microbes die if I stop adding food waste in Reencle?
ReencleMicrobe™ ("microbes") do not die easily. When the microbes are not fed with food waste, it will self-inactivate. 🚌 If you leave home for less than a week You may leave the power on and run Reencle as it is. However, on the day you leave home, just pour in some water just enough to wet the microbes evenly. ✈️(If you’re not home for more than a week) 1. Do not put food waste into Reencle 2~3 days before you leave. 2. Click the dry button for 2~3 days to dry the microorganisms because it can cause mold if the microorganisms are humid or food waste remains. 3. Please unplug the power cord on the day you leave. 4. After returning to home, plug in the power cord, click the power button, and use it 6 hours after adding 500ml of water to activate the microorganism.
  • What are the black pellets in ReencleMicrobe?
In the bag of ReencleMicrobe, you will notice there are a lot of different ingredients mixed inside. Among them you'll notice the black pellets which are called activated carbon. The microporous structure of these activated carbon pellets helps the adsorption of the microbes. Also, not only they function as providing oxygen to the microbes during the initial culture period but also, act as deodorizer. You do not need to pick them out one by one and leave it inside the byproduct/compost. It is totally fine if these black pellets get scooped up together when you take out the compost from Reencle. Also, there's no need to replenish them additionally.
  • Should I buy ReencleMicrobe™ regularly or replace it?
About ReencleMicrobe™ You don't need to buy microbes regularly. It's self-replicating. Once you purchse Reencle, a pack of ReencleMicrobe™ is included in the box. If you cultivate microbes well you don't need to buy an additional bag of microorganisms. During decomposition process, the microbes will break down your food waste and the compost will be gradually filled up. Once the compost is filled up to the Max Line, you should empty only half of them and leave the rest in the chamber. (There are three marked lines inside the bin Max/Median/Min) However, in some cases, the mircrobes might not recovered to its optimal condition due to improper usage of waste input. If that's the case and you want to buy fresh new microbes, please visit our Reencle Shop to place an order. If you have any questions about the microbes, feel free to contact our us at our help center.
  • Why should Reencle compost be dried & aged for at least 3 weeks before applying to plants??
When composting, it is vital to reduce moisture of the compost as much as possible. If the moisture level of the compost is high it is hard to come out in a solid state which leads to uneven mixture of nutrients. Moreover, excessive molds could form if the moisture of the compost is too high. At the end of the day, dry and powdery state is what we should opt for so that the nutrients inside can be evenly dispersed. We typically recommend our customers to mix the Reencle compost with soil at 1:4 ratio and dry or cure them for at least 3 weeks before applying to your plants or trees.

  • There is a White Mold in my Reencle, how to prevent? is this normal?
It's perfectly normal for compost to have some level of mold. Generally speaking, a certain level of mold in your compost is good for the decomposition process. Our microorganism is extracted from Cheese and Soybean which are actually easy to be found from nature. Overall, these molds are harmless to us and can be found on foods we consume everyday. However, the mold in your compost might become a problem when there is an imbalance between bacteria and the mold growth becomes excessive. You can simply wipe it off or scrape it down on to the compost when you see these white molds. Also, please refer to This Article which helps you prevent excessive growth of mold when using compost for plant and gardening.
